Counseling with Dr. Brown
Dr. Brown does counseling for individuals and couples and dream interpretation for individuals and groups. He has studied and applied systems of psychodynamic, cognitive, family and emotional psychology since 1961. He employed Freudian and phenomenological interpretation of stories, imagery and symbolism in his German literature MA and Ph.D. dissertations in 1964 and 1970.
He has practiced dream interpretation and men’s group facilitation since 1972,
earning a second MA in Psychology and a Marriage and Family Therapy License in 1976.
Like the pioneers of therapy from Freud and Jung onward, he experiences selfless love as a primary force in the healing partnership with each client. He focused on inborn emotions (Tomkins) in love relations in college teaching 1989-2010 and published a textbook in 2000 combining social scientific research and clinical insights into relationships.
His psychological scientific Ph.D. dissertation (1999) explored the fragility and issues of adult children of divorce. In his current work with individuals and couples he has zeroed in on the intricacies of human relations and our vulnerable emotions, shame, fear, distress and joy, as keys to growth through meeting our issues with trust.
